SEO and Social Media are K-I-S-S-I-N-G~

SEO and Social Media are K-I-S-S-I-N-G~

Remember the song that we sang as kids? K-I-S-S-I-N-G. First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby in a baby carriage. Now, maybe it should be:

SEO and Social Media sitting in a tree:
K-I-S-S-I-N-G
First comes love,
then comes marriage,
then comes leads in a golden carriage!

I was talking to someone the other day that made a resounding comment to me. She said, “SEO has nothing to do with Social Media. They are two separate animals.”

Really? Wrong. Search engine marketing encompasses both of these along with good content writing. Although these platforms work well as standalones, they work even better in concert with each other. This is why SEO Specialists have embraced Social Media - the direct and dramatic impact it has on search engine listings. A successful social media marketing campaign, complete with exceptional content writing and optimization, can result in relevant inbound links to your site, one of the most important things that influence site rankings. Reputation management is another strong correlation of the two. Get online conversations going about your brand or site positively on Digg, MySpace or YouTube, and watch how those listings will start rankings on the first page of search engines next to your own site.

LinkedIn is also now a very powerful tool when it comes to social media. You can   start groups and companies, post discussions and create polls. LinkedIn has its own analytics tools as well. If you are launching a new brand/site, it takes a while for it to be crawled with search engines. Try uploading videos to YouTube and create social profiles - building a few good links to the site.

We’re now social, whether we like it or not. These are just a few suggestions of how social media can directly influence your SEO efforts. In fact I’m willing to bet as time goes on, it will be imperative to learn how to use social media in concert with SEO, in addition to paying close attention to the content writing.  The web is your 2011 Cyber Space Odyssey and the modern day yellow pages. We’ve got all the elements of human evolution, technology, artificial intelligence, and extraterrestrial life. It is also important that you are conscience of the impact that social media can affect your reputation and you manage that effectively, but that’s a separate post for another day.

SEO and Social are kissing. We know what comes next.
